I am an experienced and qualified musician with a first class degree from the Leeds College Of Music, specialising in Jazz and Popular Music performance with disciplines in Drum Kit and Percussion.
Most notably, I was a resident drummer for band ‘Rationale’ on their debut UK and American sell-out tours, including performances for Bestival Toronto, JBTV, BBC Radio 1’s Future Festival in London and Later… with Jools Holland.
Performances with other artists include the opening ceremony for the 2014 Tour de France at the Leeds First Direct Arena with Kimberley Walsh and Alasdair Griffin, the London Mayor’s Stage at the 2012 Olympics with Edmund Jeffery and a debut live session on Sofar Sounds with Bianca Gerald, with whom I am also a resident live drummer.
“Ali is a talented drummer with a natural gift of being able to teach. His engaging and exciting lessons help students of all ages, musical styles and ability progress with speed when learning the drums.”
With a passion for session work as well as live performance in a variety of genres I have a huge wealth of experience of different musical styles that I am able to teach.
I play for a number of Jazz, Pop and experimental ensembles whilst also enjoying composing and co-writing music for various Jazz idioms. The Calvin Travers Trio, Aleks Podraza Trio, Natalie Holmes and Nicky Powel are to name only a few of the artists that I have performed for, both live and in the studio, whilst also pursuing many solo and collaborative projects.
I would be delighted to help you to learn the drums, whether you are beginner student picking up the sticks for the first time or if you are a more advanced drummer looking to reach that next level.
